Winter Honey Whiskey Cocktail

Ingredient Checklist

  • Combine water and ginger in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Juice lemon and add half the juice and half the rind to the pan. (Use the remaining rind for garnish.) Simmer for 10 minutes.

  • Divide the remaining lemon juice between 2 mugs and add half the honey, bourbon (or other whiskey) and propolis to each. Pour the hot liquid through a sieve into a glass measuring cup; discard the solids. Divide the liquid between the mugs. Stir well to dissolve the honey. Serve immediately with a twist of lemon, if desired.

Another option is to chill this liquid and serve it over ice!  You can also omit the alcohol all together and just use the Whiskey honey. A great family friendly drink for everyone. Just replace with soda water, or boiling water for a hot drink.

Propolis is a resinous product made by honeybees, they collect resins from trees and flower buds and then mix it with beeswax, they then use this to seal the hive. Food-grade grain alcohol is added to propolis to produce a tincture that is believed to have antibacterial properties. Available for purchase from Country Bee here.
